calcasieu phase 2
The second phase of restoration for this former 1930s-era motor court involved the complete rehabilitation of three cottages and construction of a new, main house for true, multi-generational living.
Two cottages remain free-standing buildings (Calcasieu Phase 1) and two are now connected to the main house, becoming the master suite and apartment kitchen. The fourth cottage is an office-studio.
The overall design was a true collaboration between the homeowner, architect and our team. Our goal was to understand their needs and desires, then distill the many ideas into a cohesive vision for the project. We started with the color palette then moved broadly to shape and texture. Most of the furnishings and rugs were selected as part of that vision then layered with vintage finds, heirlooms and art. Shiplap used throughout the house was salvaged from the cottages during renovation and minimally processed. It provides warmth and connection to the heritage of the property.
