Bell Mountain
This project started as a fairly extensive main floor renovation of a two-story traditional home built in the early nineties. The clients wanted to open the main floor up for improved flow for everyday use for two people, as well as entertaining their combined and growing large family, all the while taking advantage of large existing windows and terrace views to a protected greenbelt.
The project progressed from finishes and lighting into furnishings and rugs, all with the goal of creating an overall sophisticated and textural palette, with dramatic moments and bold color in select areas. The open kitchen/living area features a light and airy palette with handmade tiles, quartzite backsplash, and subtly stained wood tones throughout. The living room furnishings combined new and existing seating, layered new and antique rugs, and subtle colors and patterns via the custom cushions.
The butler’s pantry boasts a metallic tile backsplash, antiqued bronze mesh cabinet details, and rich black cabinets. The powder bath adds a touch of whimsy with metallic koi fish wallpaper and bronze and brass toned plumbing, hardware, and mirror. The library features a dramatic backdrop of floor-to-ceiling green paint on custom millwork. A new velvet sleeper sofa anchors the custom ottoman and rehabbed vintage chair, while an antique writing desk pairs with a recovered brass chair.
The master bath was rearranged to accommodate a grand double vanity, a large walk-in shower, and a soaker tub situated by corner windows that allow a beautiful view from the bath. The light marble and porcelain finishes stay true to the clients’ desired subtle palette, bringing in visual interest with mixed metals in the plumbing, lighting, and custom mirrors and a pop of color with a vintage rug.
