Calcasieu
Exceptional design projects are often years in the making. Calcasieu has been an evolution: from a motor court with historic roots to a vibrant multi-generational family enclave. This project is a celebration of our clients and the impact of eight years of working together through three phases of design. Phase Three, a refresh of the main house, was the most recent result of this long-standing and successful collaboration. Phase Two involved the complete rehabilitation of three of the four cottages and the construction of a new main house. Phase One was the restoration of the first of four historic cottages built in 1936 by Calcasieu Lumber Company.
Phase 3
We were tasked with a design refresh of our original project, which we could tackle with courage and confidence thanks to the trusting foundation we’d built with the client. The wish list included a larger kitchen, an upgraded guest bath, a family hangout spot, and more storage — all infused with color and pattern. After presenting a few concepts and an overall color palette, we were free to follow our vision. We covered every bit of sheetrock in warm, golden plaster, designed custom furniture, divided spaces for more privacy, and layered in a myriad of patterns — including decorative painting on the shiplap that ties it all together.
Our revamped design injected new life and energy into an already beautiful space, which our client now joyfully calls “Grandma on Acid.” We couldn’t be more pleased with the final result.
