Phase 2

The second phase of restoration tackled a complete rehabilitation of three cottages and the construction of a new main house for true multi-generational living. Two of the four cottages were integrated into the main residence, becoming the primary suite and kitchen. Of the two detached cottages, one serves as the original guest house and the other as a studio workplace.

The overall design was a collaboration between the homeowner, architect, and our Austin interior design team. Our approach was to take time to learn the client’s needs and desires, distilling the many ideas into a cohesive vision for the ever-growing project. We started with the color palette and then moved broadly to shape and texture. Most furnishings and rugs were selected as part of that vision and then layered with vintage finds, heirlooms, and art. Shiplap throughout the house was salvaged from the cottages during renovation and minimally processed, providing warmth and connection to the heritage of the property.

Phase 1

The first phase of this ambitious project focused on restoring a small historic cottage. Our client intended to use the outbuilding as a guest house. We aimed to make it as beautiful and comfortable as a hotel room. The original windows and sinks were restored and balanced with a painted floor, modern light fixtures, and tile. Space was maximized with built-in cabinetry and furniture with a white-stained plywood finish that feels bright and current.
