Interior designer in Austin, Amity Worrel & Co, had the pleasure of taking on this cozy cottage interior remodel. The project began with a conversation between our collaboration about improving the flow and functionality of their older home. After careful consideration, we decided to open the floor plan to increase the visual and physical space. The kitchen became a central hub, connecting the dining area, living room, and sewing studio. In addition, we were able to incorporate a much-needed expanded pantry, which was no small feat in a period home.
One of the goals of this project was to preserve the charm and character of the bungalow while incorporating modern elements and functionality. With this in mind, we left the inherited fireplace and charming corner cabinets untouched, letting them inspire the rest of the home’s design. The clients, both artists, were delighted to have custom upholstered furnishings throughout the space, carefully selected to be stylish and functional for the smaller areas of the home.
As we moved through the home, we wanted to ensure that every aspect reflected the homeowners’ personalities. In the hallway, we decided to use a cork wall covering to add a unique texture and warmth to the space and serve as a canvas for the clients’ essential collection of sketches and travel mementos. To highlight this feature, we installed overhead sconces, further emphasizing the cork wall and adding a touch of elegance to the hallway.
From the initial design development to the completion of the interior remodel, Amity Worrel & Co. was thrilled to collaborate on such an exquisite cottage. We created a space that met their needs and desires but also reflected their artistic and unique personalities. It was a pleasure to take part in transforming this cozy cottage into a functional, stylish, and welcoming home.
