Why Right Now Has Turned into The Right Time for Interior Design
At this strange time in our world people are inward focused in a way that I have not seen in my lifetime. Our clients around Austin, Texas are investing in their homes like never before. All of the side projects that have been ignored for months or years are now the focus at the forefront of people’s minds.
Since their budgets are not going to vacations, many are redirecting their money into their day-to-day living experience in their homes: Upgrading the unfinished master bedroom with proper bedside tables; Building out the detached garage apartment for alternating work space and future guests; Replacing furnishings that more easily accommodate the entire family. I see folks investing in making the daily life in their homes more comfortable.
How to Find Comfort in Your Home
If you are seeking more comfort in your home, one way to do that is to simply consider your space in a holistic way. Are there spaces in the home that are frankly not pulling their weight for the family? What else could you be doing with that space? How many of us have an unused room that has become a catch-all for castaways that could be turned into a media room or office library and really add value to the living experience in your home?
If the issue is the noise level with everyone home together, maybe the simple addition of a runner down the hall or on the stairs will help mitigate sound and make you like your children again. One does not have to hide in the closet!
What we are hearing frequently from clients right now is that their homes no longer work for them since they are spending so much time in them. A small addition of a powder bathroom or a full bath for the teen in your home might make life more peaceful. Maybe all you need is a better furniture arrangement and comfortable seating or an upholstered screen to block your work space from your living room so you can make a phone call in peace.
Professional Perspective Can Help
Time and time again we find that people are not taking full advantage of the function that their existing space could provide. They are not realizing how affected they are by their lighting arrangement or their lack of storage in a strategic area. Small frustrations have a way of raising stress levels, and good design has actually been documented to positively impact people’s happiness.
Today, more and more people are realizing that there is a lot more to home design than just the aesthetic. Investing in the design of their interior adds value to the experience of living there.
Just as I would not try straightening my own teeth without professional help nor would I attempt to fix my car without a mechanic, it is worth it to talk to a professional about your home. Professional help…even just a simple conversation with an interior designer could help enhance your experience in your home. Feel free to reach out to us if you need some help.
